Jackson to host state tournament
Jackson's Brookside Park will host the state 10- and 11-year old Cal Ripken baseball tournament beginning today.
The first game is scheduled for 1 p.m., and the championship game is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m.
The eight-team tournament includes teams from Sikeston, Mineral Area, Brookfield, Lebanon, SEMO North, Jackson, Boonville and Aurora.
The winning team advances to a tournament in Colorado.
Cook, Stoverink win horseshoe event
Lachelle Cook and Cori Stoverink won the Southeast Missouri Horseshoe Association event Sunday at the Knights of Columbus in Oran.
Bob Burnett and Wesley Stoverink placed second, while Joe Bean and Danny Williams finished third.
The next events will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Knights of Columbus in Scott City and 1 p.m. Sunday at the Backyard Horseshoe Club in Glenallen.
Stenthouse takes flag at Benton RacePark
Ricky Stenthouse won the sprint division race Friday at Benton RacePark.
Other winners were Robert Powers in modified, Mark Todd in pure street and Tim Borgfield in pro-4.
