Cape Ford &Sons gets hits, loses on the road

PADUCAH, Ky. -- Cape Girardeau's Ford & Sons Senior American Legion baseball team outhit Paducah (Ky) by four but suffered an 11-6 road loss Tuesday night.

Ford & Sons (22-12) had 15 hits, led by Seth Hudson with three. Patrick Slattery, Matt Wulfers and Luke McClellan all added two hits.

Paducah (22-11) finished with 11 hits but took advantage of six walks and four Cape errors.

Blake Urhahn suffered the loss, allowing nine earned runs and 10 hits in five innings. He struck out three and walked six. Michael Taylor allowed one hit and no earned runs over the final three innings. He fanned one and walked none.

Jackson American Legion powers past Sikeston

Jackson's American Legion baseball team belted three home runs and held off Sikeston 16-13 Tuesday night at Jackson City Park.

Brandon Gendron led the way with a grand slam and five RBIs. Jason Meystedt connected for a two-run home run and had five RBI. Jake Carter had a solo home run.

Jackson (24-16) scored five runs in the first and led 12-1 after Gendron's grand slam in the fourth. Sikeston trailed 13-1 but closed the game with a nine-run seventh.

Austin McDowell picked up the win after allowing five hits and a walk in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out four.

Meystedt went 3-for-5 in Jackson's 16-hit attack. Tyler Profilet, Kyle McMinn, Carter, Gendron and Jason Owen each had two hits.

Elfrink, Kluesner team up for horseshoe victory

Tyler Elfrink and Gary Kluesner won the SEMO Horseshoe competition at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Oran on Sunday.

In a competition Saturday at the Backyard Horseshoe Club in Glenallen, Cori Stoverink and Bob Piper won.
