Vernon edges Dixon by a stroke

Carr Vernon shot a 75 to win the boys 16 to 19 18 holes tour division at the Gateway Junior Series tournament at Dalhousie Golf Club.

Brady Dixon finished second with a 76, and Tyler Arpin carded an 80.

Nicholas Woolard won the boys 14 to 15 18-holes tour division with a 79, thanks in part to a hole-in-one on hole No. 13.

Cape Legion sweeps doubleheader

The Cape Girardeau Ford and Sons American Legion Post 63 baseball team swept Dyersburg (Tenn.) in a doubleheader Tuesday in Union City, Tenn.

Cape posted 8-4 and 10-9 victories to improve to 10-5.

Ronnie Scott picked up the win in the opener, allowing three hits and four runs in five innings.

Trey Gardner went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.

Cape rallied with two runs in the top of the seventh in the nightcap.

Logan Morris and Gardner both had RBI singles in the seventh to make a winner out of Ross Moldenhauer.

Moldenhauer provided three innings of relief, allowing two hits and striking out four.

Morris, Gardner and Cody Livesay all finished with two hits. Morris had three RBIs.
