Southeast women win OVC all-sports trophy
With Ohio Valley Championships in soccer and outdoor track and second-place finishes or better in six of nine sports, Southeast Missouri State University's women's athletics claimed the OVC all-sports trophy.
Southeast finished just ahead of Eastern Kentucky. The Otahkians have an OVC-leading seven women's all-sport trophies and placed second the previous two years.
Southeast's men finished in a tie for third behind champion Eastern Illinois and Murray State. Southeast's women's and men's combined score was the highest of the nine OVC athletic programs, just ahead of Eastern Illinois and Eastern Kentucky.
Alvarez gets national award as top pitcher
Less than a week after his first collegiate no-hitter and the first in Ohio Valley Conference tournament history, Southeast Missouri State University hurler Tim Alvarez received the Louisville Slugger National Pitcher of the Week award from Collegiate Baseball magazine.
Scramble winners win by four at Dalhousie
Mark and Christy McDowell and Neil and Bev Prater teamed to win the Memorial Day couples' four-person scramble Monday at Dalhousie Golf Club.
The four shot a 61, three shots ahead of Tom and Eileen Owens and Lance and Laura Bray.
Closest-to-the-pin winners were Aaron Dombrowski (No. 5), Becky Unger (No. 8), Tim Coad (No. 11) and Neil Prater (No. 13).
Angle, Harris share Chip-A-Ways event wins
Lil Angle won Class A and Fay Harris won the Class B in the Cape Girardeau Chip-A-Ways event.
Carolyn Blechle was the play-of-the-day winner. Bev Wink won in low putts.
Chip-A-Ways competitors Deanna Peterman, Sharon Dow, Joann Williams and Jan Keefe won Class A at the recent Bluebird Classic at Perryville Country Club.
