Scott Co. racers win big on ATPR opening night
BENTON, Mo. -- Scott County racers tuned up for the season with opening-night wins at Auto Tire and Parts NAPA Racepark on Saturday.
Joey Mack of Benton, Mo., won the United Midwestern Promoters late model feature in that division's return to weekly competition at the oval track. Dave Eaves of Anna, Ill., was second with Brian Maynard of Benton, Ky., third.
Daron Clayton of Sikeston, Mo., won the finale for the winged sprint class. Jerrod Hull, also of Sikeston, was second. Third was Jan Howard of Memphis, Tenn.
Bart Richardson of Milan, Tenn., won the UMP modified division feature. Rusty Griffaw of Fenton, Mo., was second with Brandon Maxwell of Milan, Tenn.
Nathan Rettig of Sikeston, Mo., debuted with his first win in the pure street stock class. Tim Winchester of Gideon, Mo., was second, and Billy Hopkins of Caruthersville, Mo., was third.
Scorpions Rugby Club third in Ill. tournament
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Kohlfeld Scorpions Rugby Club finished third among 12 teams in a tournament at Carbondale on Saturday.
The Scorpions won the third-place game 22-10 over Illinois State. The Scorpions defeated Illinois-Chicago 17-10 in the first round, beat Eastern Illinois 15-10 in the second round, then lost to eventual tournament champion Illinois 17-16 in the semifinals.
Tournament scorers included John Cruetz, T.J. Ebner, Joey Hann, Marc Harris, Eric Hinson, Mark Lineberry, Ben Schwab and Kevin Tucker.
The Scorpions play at 1 p.m. Saturday at Arena Park against the Eastern Rockies Division champion -- Fort Collins, Colo. -- in a Western USA Rugby championship qualifier.
Parris tops Wade for Sikeston super pro win
SIKESTON, Mo. -- Ken Parris of Dexter, Mo., won the super pro division Saturday at the Sikeston Drag Strip, running 129.75 mph on a 5.21-second dial and 5.256-second time. Jim Wade of Benton, Mo., was second.
Floyd Foreman of Sikeston won the pro class at 71.07 mph (8.67 dial, 8.718 ET) over Tony Jacques of Campbell, Mo.
Don Hooker of Carbondale, Ill., won in the ET class, finishing in 88.26 mph (7.92 dial, 7.877 ET). Second was Stanley Byrd of Bertrand, Mo.
Oklahoma racers take SEMORaceway prizes
BLODGETT, Mo. --Kenny Koelsch of Tulsa, Okla., led a trio ofOklahoma drivers to wins Saturday at SEMORaceway.
Koelsch won in the A-class over KevinBayer of Broken Arrow, Okla.
Bayer returned to lead Travis Senter Jr. ofOsceola, Ark., for the multi class win. Riley Adair of Tulsa led Jonathan Hendricks of McCordsville, Mo., in the sportsman class.
Fujiwiara, McKinney, Barrows, Tewis top WGA
The Women's Golf Association held its first event of the season -- a four-person scramble -- at the Cape Girardeau Country Club with Keiko Fujiwiara, Vicky McKinney, Sharon Barrows and Linda Tewis taking wins by shooting a 66.
Second place was a tie among three teams with a 67. Leslie Steele, Pat Strom, Catherine Weed and Bobbie Woodard were on one team; Shirley Talley, Robyn Young, Brenda VandenBrook and Fran Redigar were on the second team; and Betty Price, Marlena Jones, Rachelle Trager and Dana Underwood were on the third team.
Underwood (No. 2) and Jones (No. 11) were closest to the pin.
