Scott nominated for U.S. Paralympic team
Susan Beth Scott of Cape Girardeau is among 38 swimmers nominated to represent the United States at the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing.
Scott, among 18 women nominated, broke the world record in the women's 400 freestyle (S10) at last week's U.S. Paralympic Swimming Trials in Minneapolis with a time of 4 minutes, 40.10 seconds.
Williams wins A flight at Chip-A-Ways event
Linda Williams earned the medalist honor at the Chip-A-Ways' first event of the season Tuesday at Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course.
Jean Graham won B flight while Irene Winston won the long-putt competition.
Scorpions win tourney at Southern Illinois
The Scorpions rugby club won the 21st annual All Fool's tournament last weekend on the SIU-Carbondale campus, defeating Indiana State 24-10 in the championship match.
The Scorpions had won their pool with victories over Peoria (Ill.), Fox Valley Chicago and Loyola (Ill.).
The team reached the championship match with a 7-5 victory over the University of Illinois.
Josh Goodrich, Scott Johnston and Joey Hann each had three scores for the Scorpions. Marc Harris, Jeremy Mabrey and Kevin Rudolphi added a score apiece.
The Scorpions return to action at 1 p.m. April 19 when they host Scott Air Force Base at Arena Park.
