Kantchev wins European tourney

Diana Kantchev, a member of the Central golf team, placed first in the recent women's division at the Macedonian Open Golf Championship at St. Sofia Golf Course in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Kantchev, 16, shot an 83 to win the individual stroke play event. She plans to play in the Bulgarian national golf championship in Pravets July 12-14 and in two more international girls' tournaments in The Netherlands and England.

Kantchev, who will be a senior in the fall, is a member of Dalhousie Golf Club.

Lane, Bollinger top finishers in 5K

Ryan Lane and Jessica Bollinger were the top male and female finishers in Saturday's Run For God/Amen Center 5K race at Lynwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.

Lane finished in 16 minnutes, 20 seconds and was also the top overall finisher. Bollinger's time was 19:47.

Dombrowski wins at Dalhousie

Cord Dombrowski scored +6 to win Saturday's point series-quota system tournament at Dalhousie Golf Course.

Clay Crosson, Bruce Watson and Ian Soutar tied for second at +4. Tom Metheny was fifth with +3.

Jackson Jr. Indians 2nd at Show Me Games

The Jackson Junior Indians youth tackle football team placed second at the Missouri State Show Me Games held June 14-16 in Columbia, Mo. The team is comprised of area 11 year-olds who compete in youth tackle football from April-December.

The team will compete in several more tournaments this year. including two competions in St. Louis, one in Southest Missouri, and one in Knoxville, Tenn.

A team fundraiser is also planned to raise funds to honor fallen teammate Parker King, who died in a UTV crash in 2012. The team will wash cars on August 10 from 9am-1pm at the Branding Iron in Jackson, and all proceeds will go towards purchasing two benches for the Jackson Area Youth Football fields in Jackson.
