Oberle, Loeffelmancapture scramble title

Chris Oberle and Nick Loeffelman won the championship flight in the Cape Jaycees Two-Man Scramble golf tournament Saturday and Sunday at Cape Jaycees Municipal Golf Course.

The tournament raised money for Toybox, Christmas for the Elderly and Catch and Release Day.

Oberle and Loeffelman combined for an 18-under-par score of 122, beating Jeff Connell and Jay Connell by one stroke. George Glasscock and Mike Lewis finished third at 15 under.

In the A flight, Ray Jones and James Mullins combined for a 6-under 134 and beat Mark Morrill and Joe Burnett in a scorecard playoff. Mark Oliver and Luke Oliver finished third, one stroke behind the top two teams.

Derek Lewis and Bruce Turner won the B flight at 8-under 142. The team of Brock Alspaugh and Mike Alspaugh captured second place by a scorecard playoff over Harry Williams and James Dumas. Both teams scored 143.

In the C flight, Tyler Boatwright and Chris Colan combined for a 6-over 146. Dave Mehner and Rick Wood finished second at 147, and Dave Rouse and Jim Noel placed third at 149.

Conceicao, Jacksonhelp national teams

Former Southeast Missouri State women's basketball players Tatiana Conceicao and Simone Jackson helped their national teams to respectable showings at the Pan American Games in Rio de Jeniero, Brazil.

Conceicao, a former OVC player of the year, averaged 6 points and 3.5 rebounds in helping Brazil to a 5-1 record and second-place finish. She shot 75 percent from both 3-point range and the the free-throw line.

Jackson averaged 2.6 points and 4.4 rebounds for Jamaica, which went 2-3 in tournament play and placed eighth. She also had four steals and four assists.
