Southeast cross country teams win at home
A day at home led to a pair of wins for the Southeast Missouri State University men's and women's cross country teams.
Running at Capaha Park in their final meet of the regular season Saturday, Southeast's women finished with 21 points to lead Murray State and Arkansas State. Kaci Pilcher won the overall women's title in 18:46 ahead of Southeast teammates Kris Woolf (second, 18:51), Brooke Woodruff (fifth, 19:20), Kim Kreiger (sixth, 19:23) and Jen Caywood (seventh, 19:31).
The Southeast men's team led Murray State 39-35 to win. Arkansas State was third. Southeast's Chad Sierman was second (15:46), Brian Whitehead third (16:02), Gabe Lutes fifth (16:07), Brad Demattei 12th (16:35) and Kirk Nesbit 15th (17:21).
Southeast volleyball pulls out a victory at Samford
Southeast's volleyball team won a close match Saturday at Samford.
The Otahkians (6-16, 5-4) reversed their recent trend by coming from behind. Southeast lost the first game 31-29 but came back to win the next three games 3129, 30-28, 30-28.
Suzanne Gundlach added another double-double with 21 kills and 13 digs. Three others had double figure kills, led by Sarah Frost's 13. Jessica Wilfong added 10 and Jamie Baumstark had 11. Setter Emily Scannell had 54 assists.
Jackson golfer gets first hole in one in Kentucky
Jim Burnett of Jackson picked up his first hole in one Oct. 11 at Mineral Mounds State Park Golf Course.
The ace came on a 146-yard par-3 shot. Burnett used a 9-iron.
Nick Garner, Gary Garner and Kevin Akers were witnesses.
