Scott County Senior Legion team wins
The Scott County American Legion senior baseball team improved to 2-0 in the Mountain Home (Ark.) Tournament on Friday by beating Miller 16-8.
Scott County (8-3) will finish up pool play in the 28-team tournament at 8:15 p.m. today against host Mountain Home. A win would send Scott County into Sunday's championship round.
Scott County trailed 5-0 after the first inning, but stormed back thanks to a 20-hit attack.
Trenton Moses led the way by going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and six RBIs.
Blake Dirnberger had three hits -- including a homer and three RBIs -- while Tyler Beardslee and Rynn Eskew each added three hits.
Caleb Daughetee, Rusty Hendricks and Chase Seyer all contributed two hits.
Alex Chasteen pitched three innings in relief for the win. He allowed only an unearned run and two hits.
Scott County Junior Legion team sweeps
The Scott County American Legion junior team banged out 21 hits and swept a home doubleheader Thursday against Cape Girardeau.
Scott County held off a late Cape rally in the district opener for an 11-9 win, then jumped out to a 9-0 lead after two innings in the second game and cruised to a 12-3 win.
Aaron Thomaszewski and Ryan Essner each had two-run singles to pace Scott County in the opening win. Thomaszewski finished with two hits.
Cody Rice and Jake Pewitt each had two hits for Cape in the loss.
Tanner Hiett took the loss in the second game as Cape was held to just four hits.
