Southeast soccer loses at 11th-ranked Auburn
AUBURN, Ala. -- Southeast Missouri State University's women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss at powerhouse Auburn Friday night.
Auburn, 2-0 and ranked 11th nationally, scored a pair of first-half goals and dropped the Otahkians to 1-1-1.
The Otahkians were outshot 12-5. Southeast goalkeeper Amanda Wrzos made four saves.
Southeast volleyball falls to 0-5
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Southeast's volleyball team fell to 0-5 after losing to Wisconsin-Green Bay (4-0) 30-26, 30-22, 34-32 Friday in the Indiana University Tournament.
No player reached double figures in kills for the Otahkians. Emily Scannell, Suzanne Gundlach and Jackson High School product Jessie Koeper all had nine kills.
Gundlach led the way in digs with 15, and Jill Miller added 12. Scannell dished out 34 assists.
The Otahkians will get two more chances for their first win today with tournament matches today against Indiana and IUPUI.
Jackson to host cross country meet
Runners from across the state will compete today in the Jackson Invitational cross country meet today at Jackson City Park.
About 24 teams will compete, including area schools Central, Notre Dame, Delta, Kelly and Eagle Ridge represented.
Unlike most meets in which runners are broken into boys and girls divisions, the Jackson meet separates runners by class. Results from each class -- freshman, sophomore, junior and senior -- will be added to determine the team standings.
The meet begins at 10 a.m.
Jones wins WGA's event at Cape Girardeau C.C.
Marlena Jones earned medalist honors at the Women's Golf Association's weekly event at Cape Girardeau Country Club.
Jones also shared first with Leslie Steele in Play of the Day -- Best Score on Par 4's. Judi Brey placed third.
Jean Mabrey and Betty Price tied for first in the nine-hole competition and Nell Coad placed third.
