Cape Hotshot shooter stopped by Pingel

Cole Pingel posted a score of 152 to capture the 10- to 12-year-old boys division in the 18th annual Hotshot Basketball Contest sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department.

The event Sunday at Osage Community Centre consisted of shooting from five spots on the floor in 1-minute rounds.

Pingel had the day's top score and the largest margin of victory, beating runner-up Jonathan Lynchs's 119 points. Adam Schaefer was third at 116. Eleven boys competed in the division.

Jacob Bond scored a 142 to edge Alex Beussink's 140 in the 13 to 16 boys division. Kevin Casasala was third among 12 competitors with a score of 120.

Adam Pope won the 7 to 9 boys crown with 137 points. Mitchell Schaeffer was second at 110, and Brendan Boswell was third with 109. The division drew the most participants, 14.

In the girls, Ashley Humphrey's 90 points edged Amber Humphrey's 74 in the 13 to 16 girls shooting competition. Neelye Blue was third with 72.

Katie Hogan won the 10 to 12 girls division with 89 points. Shelby Beussink was second with 73, and Chancey Elfrink was third with 58.

Cheyenne Blue won the 7 to 9 girls division with 36 points. Sarah Bell was second with 13.

Jackson Legion meeting slated for Dec. 14

A meeting for prospective players and parents interested in information about the Jackson American Legion baseball team's 2007 season can attend a meeting 7 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Jackson American Legion Hall.

Jackson's Post 158 plans to have three teams for the 2007 season -- Class A, Class AA and Class AAA squads --and freshmen will be eligible to play.
