Kimbeland second atSEMO Cup tournament

The Kimbeland Country Club contingent finished second at the SEMO Cup golf tournament on Oct. 14 at Hidden Trails in Dexter, Mo.

Westwood Hills Country Club of Poplar Bluff had the first-place score.

The event included 36 holes of competition in four formats -- nine holes each of scramble, four-ball, Chapman and alternate shot -- with teams scoring the best five two-man scores among its six entries.

Ken Hosea and Ben McKuin of Kimbeland, located in Jackson, won the Chapman format with a score of 31.

The Kimbeland team -- which also included Jim Davy, Todd Ladd, Mark Mungle, Gary King, Dennis Drerup, Bob Englehart, Jason Lukefahr, Marvin Adams, Glen Kroenung and Todd Smith -- posted a score of 733, just four strokes behind Westwood Hills.

Dalhousie Golf Club finished third with a score of 741, Cape Country Club was eighth with a 784 and Cape Jaycee Municipal rounded out the field with a 792.

Westwood's Jimmy Vernon and Jerrad Murphy had the low score of 9-under 135 over the four formats, and they had the best score in alternate shot at 33.

Among those earning closest-to-the-pin honors were McKuin on hole No. 4 and Cape Jaycee's Tim Sadler on No. 6.

Crosstown movesinto first-place tie

Crosstown swept Jackson 7-1, 7-2 and 4-2 to move into a first-place tie after two weeks of play in the Cape-Perry LLL Dartball competition.

Crosstown and Friedheim are tied for first place in the loop at 5-1.

Youth rodeo clubselects its officers

The Cape County Wild Horse 4-H Rodeo Club named its officers for the 2006-07 club year that begin in October.

Amelia Palmer was elected president; Genny Bradshaw was elected vice president; Micayla Gray was elected secretary; Tyler Maintz was elected treasurer; Mackenzie Gass was elected reporter; Clayton Maintz and Jessica Gray are game/song leaders; and Casey Farrow was elected historian. The group leaders are Becky Maintz and Cindy Gass.

Children between the ages of 5 and 18 interested in horses are welcome to attend a club meeting. The meetings take place 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at the Fruitland Community Church.
