Heartland Nationals team wins regional softball title

DENVER, Colo. -- The Heartland Nationals 10-and-under softball team won 10-0 Sunday to secure the Midwest Regional Babe Ruth title.

The Heartland team, a group of area all-stars, defeated Southern Plains of Colorado in four innings.

Alecia Glaus pitched a one-hitter over four innings. She struck out nine and walked four.

Hali Woodfin and Miranda Estes each had two hits. Woodfin also had a home run. Kendra Burnett had a triple.

The Heartland team finished its short season together with a 5-0 record.

Griffaw takes second ATPR modified victory

BENTON, Mo. -- Rusty Griffaw of Festus, Mo., won the UMP modified feature for the second time this season late Saturday at Auto Tire and Parts Racepark.

Josh Cherry of Wingo, Ky., finished second. Terry Baker of Scott City was third.

Greg Casey of Sikeston won in pure stocks, leading Dietrich Bollinger and Jeff Beeson, both of Benton.

Wayne Bartels and Jeff Trankler won in cruisers.
