Christian makes another All-American team

Southeast Missouri State University baseball product Justin Christian was selected to his second All-American team Wednesday when the American Baseball Coaches Association tabbed the second baseman for third-team honors.

Christian, who earlier made the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper/TPX third team, batted .376 with 13 home runs and 48 runs batted in for the Indians this season as he was the Ohio Valley Conference's Rookie of the Year.

Christian and Southeast pitcher Tim Alvarez both earned All-American honors this season. Alvarez was selected to three All-American squads, one second team and two third teams.

Jackson Senior Legion splits doubleheader

Jackson's Senior American Legion baseball team split a doubleheader at Paducah, Ky., Tuesday night.

In the opener, Brandon Stearns and Josh Parham combined for a one-hitter as Jackson (15-9) won 5-2. Jackson banged out 10 hits, including two apiece from Parham, Kyle McMinn and Trevor Thompson.

In the second game, Jackson starter Keith Seyer was plagued by walks in a 10-4 loss.

Jackson was led by Tyler Profilet's 3-for-5 performance. Jake Carter and Tim Stearns had two hits apiece.

Hess gets hole in one at Kimbeland

Mike Hess of Jackson carded his first career hole in one recently at Kimbeland Country Club.

Hess used a pitching wedge on No. 18, a par 3 playing 140 yards.

Witnesses were Ed Hess and Billy Williams.

Eftink fires ace at Cape Girardeau Country Club

Mary Jane Eftink of Cape Girardeau recently fired a hole in one at Cape Girardeau Country Club.

Eftink used an 8-iron on No. 8, a par 3 playing 95 yards.

Witnesses were her husband, Leon, and Rick and Joyce Kuntze.
