Cape Legion wins at Arkansas Tournament

Cape Girardeau's Ford & Sons Senior American Legion baseball team received one-hit pitching from Blake Urhahn and defeated Paragould (Ark.) 2-1 Friday at the Jonesboro (Ark.) Tournament.

Ford & Sons (3-2) bounced back from Thursday's tournament opener, a 12-3 loss to Sylvan Hills (Ark.). Cape finishes pool play at 3:30 p.m. today against Batesville (Ark.). Ford & Sons is still alive to advance out of its pool and into Sunday's finals.

Urhahn carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but he allowed an infield single and his only run. He finished with five strikeouts and two walks.

"Blake really pitched well," Cape manager Tom Reinagel said. "It was a nice win for us against a very good team that was 9-1."

Cape had just four hits, led by Kyle Diveley with two. Diveley and Seth Hudson each drove in a run.

Errors cost Jackson at Arkansas tournament

Jackson's Senior American Legion baseball team committed four errors that led to four unearned runs in a 5-4 loss to Little Rock (Ark.) at the Jonesboro (Ark.) Tournament Friday.

Kyle Long pitched 5 2/3 innings for Jackson (9-5) and picked up the loss. Jackson managed only five hits, led by Austin McDowell's 2-for-4 game.

Jackson, which has lost its first two tournament games, will finish pool play tonight against Jonesboro. Jackson likely has been eliminated from advancing to Sunday's finals round.

Kimbeland golfers finish strong at Westwood

Four golfers from Kimbeland Country Club fared well in a two-person women's scramble at Westwood Hills Country Club in Poplar Bluff, Mo., on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Sis Winkler and Cisse Erlbacher finished second in flight C, and Betty Roth and Dorothy Gill were third.
