Sikeston closes with a win over Perryville
Sikeston quarterback Stephen Miller threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more as the Bulldogs closed their season with a 41-20 district win over visiting Perryville on Thursday night.
Sikeston (4-5, 1-2 district), also received three touchdowns from Travis Hudson. Perryville (3-7, 0-3) fell behind 28-0 and trailed 35-7 at halftime. Pirate quarterback Cory Buerck passed for 214 yards and running back Matt Unterreiner had 73 yards rushing and an 80-yard touchdown on a second-quarter kickoff return. Andrew Bachmann had three catches for 82 yards, including a 47-yard touchdown reception in the second half.
Chaffee shut out against Hayti to finish season
Chaffee spotted Hayti a 34-0 lead in the first quarter and never recovered in its season-ending 68-0 loss on the road Thursday in a Class 1, District 1 football game.
The Red Devils (0-10) got 44 yards on eight carries from Chris Hanback. Quarterback Jeff Daugherty was 2-for-11 for 15 yards, but he had two interceptions.
Hayti climbed to 7-2 in the district, which was won by St. Vincent.
Four from Southeast on all-OVC soccer team
On the eve of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament semifinals, four Southeast Missouri State University women's soccer players received all-conference recognition Thursday.
Junior midfielder Marla Gianino was the only Otahkian selected to the all-OVC first team voted on by the league's head coaches.
Junior defender Heather Reding made the second team, while sophomore midfielder Ashley DeRoy and freshman defender Jessie Wuellner were selected for the third team.
Eastern Illinois' Beth Liesen is the OVC player of the year, Jacksonville State goalkeeper Amanda Stephens is the defensive player of the year and Samford's Todd Yelton is the coach of the year after leading the Bulldogs to the regular-season title in their first year in the league.
Fifth-seeded Southeast (10-5-4) plays top-seeded and host Samford (11-4-3) at 7 p.m. today in the tournament semifinals in Birmingham, Ala. The other semifinal pits second-seeded Eastern Illinois (10-5-4) against third-seeded Jacksonville State (11-4-4).
Sunday's championship game will be at 1 p.m., with the winner receiving an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
