Otahkians' volleyball team bounces back
Southeast Missouri State University's volleyball team (13-10, 8-3) bounced back from a five-game loss to Morehead State on Friday night to defeat Eastern Kentucky in straight sets on the road Saturday.
Southeast kept Eastern Kentucky at bay throughout the match, winning 30-20, 30-20, 30-20. Emily Johnson led the way for the Otahkians, picking up a double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs.
Sarah Frost also had a strong hitting night with 14 kills. Setter Emily Scannell dished out 43 assists. Suzanne Gundlach added 10 digs.
Southeast will step outside the Ohio Valley Conference for their next match, as they take on the University of Missouri Thursday night at home.
Southeast women first, men second in meet
The Otahkians captured the top four spots en route to a commanding victory at the Southeast Missouri State Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.
Competing at home and in their last meet before the Ohio Valley Conference Championships, the Southeast women showed up in force. Freshman Lindsay Zeiler led the way and won with a time of 18 minutes, 39 seconds. Kris Woolf finished second at 19:03, Anna Verseman was third at 19:07 and Brooke Woodruff rounded out the top four with a time of 19:08.
On the men's side Southeast finished second behind Murray State. Chad Sierman was the top finisher for the Indians, taking third in a time of 15:44. Brian Whitehead and Gabe Lutes finished sixth and seventh respectively for Southeast.
