Southeast volleyball team at home tonight
Southeast Missouri State University's volleyball team begins a key two-match Ohio Valley Conference weekend homestand at 7 p.m. today against Murray State at Houck Field House.
Saturday, the Otahkians take on league-leading Tennessee-Martin, also at 7 p.m.
The Otahkians, who have won four straight matches, are 10-9 overall and a third-place 5-2 in the OVC.
Murray State, coached by former Southeast assistant Dave Schwepker, has posted three straight wins. The Racers are 5-9 overall and a fourth-place 4-4 in the nine-team league.
Defending OVC champion Tennessee-Martin, also on a three-match winning streak, is 13-4 overall and 8-0 in conference play.
Meeting set to discuss indoor tennis courts
With the scheduled 2004 closing of Universal Health & Fitness Center, which houses Cape Girardeau's only indoor tennis courts, a meeting has been scheduled to discuss the future of indoor tennis in the city.
The meeting at 5 p.m. Sunday at Universal Health & Fitness Center is open to the public.
Area baseball player makes Babe Ruth list
Ronnie Scott, 9, of Cape Girardeau has been picked for the Babe Ruth League's All-Star Edition of "Who's Who in Youth League Baseball."
Ronnie, who was a pitcher and first baseman for the Braves and the Cape Girardeau All-Stars in the Cal Ripken League over the summer, is a fourth-grader at St. Vincent DePaul. He's played in area leagues for about three years.
By being included on the list and the fifth annual book, his biography will appear in the archives at the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Eaker fires hole in one at Kimbeland course
Jesse Eaker of Cape Girardeau carded his third career hole in one recently at Kimbeland County Club.
Eaker used a pitching wedge to ace No. 12, a par 3 playing 90 yards. Witnesses were Gordon Feeney, Earl Cotner and Wayne Steffens.
