Southeast soccer team beats Tennessee Tech

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Southeast Missouri State University's women's soccer team remained perfect in Ohio Valley Conference play Friday as the Otahkians defeated Tennessee Tech 2-1.

The Otahkians are 8-4-1 overall and 2-0 in the OVC. The Eagles fell to 8-3-1 and 2-2.

Southeast got both its goals in the first half. Sophomore Marla Gianino scored just 10 minutes into the game, with an assist from Valerie Henderson. In the final two minutes of the period, freshman Ashley DeRoy scored, with Michelle Frossard assisting.

Tech's Jill Burns scored with nine minutes remaining in the game, but the Eagles could not quite catch up.

The Otahkians play at home today when Lipscomb visits Houck Stadium for a 7 p.m. non-conference game.

Rams, Eagles win youth tackle league openers

The Rams beat the Browns 28-0 and the Eagles beat the 49ers 22-0 in opening games in Cape Youth Tackle Football.

In the Rams' win, Tyler Brandt scored on runs of 30 and 25 yards. Luke Burroughs (40 yards) and Cris Cottner (1 yard) also had touchdowns. Brandt kicked three PATs.-- From staff reports
