* Pitch, hit and run competition: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will host the Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run competition May 9 at Arena Park on baseball field No. 6. The free event will include a girls softball division as well as a boys baseball division. * Jackson Legion tryout: The Jackson American Legion baseball teams will hold tryouts Sunday at American Legion Field. Basketball

* Southeast boys camps: The Southeast Missouri State men's basketball program, under new coach Dickey Nutt, will hold several camps this summer. A team camp for club teams, varsity, junior varsity and junior high school teams will be June 5 and 6. An individual camp for players ages 11 through 18 will be June 7 to 10. * Southeast girls camps: The Southeast Missouri State women's basketball program, under coach John Ishee, will hold several camps this summer. An individual skills camp for players entering grades 3 through 12 will be June 1 to 4. A team camp for club teams, varsity, junior varsity and junior high school teams will be June 12 and 13. * Summer boys league: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor its annual junior high and high school summer boys basketball league for students entering grades 7 through 12. League play is scheduled to begin June 2 at the Osage Community Centre and A.C. Brase Arena. Games will be played Tuesday evenings. Registration fee is $225 per team. * Summer girls league: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a league for girls in grades 7 through 12. * Jackson camps: Jackson will host boys basketball camps at the high school. An individual skills camp for players in grades 3 through 7 will be June 29 to July 2 from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost: $50 if preregistered; $55 at the door. A shooting camp for players in grades 3 through 7 will be July 13 to 16 from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost: $50 if preregistered; $55 at the door. A little dribblers camp for players in grades kindergarten through 2 will be Aug. 3 to 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost: $40 if preregistered, $45 at the door. Individual workouts also will be available with the Jackson coaching staff and focus on shooting fundamentals, post moves and ball handling. * Southeast camps: The Southeast Missouri State football program, under coach Tony Samuel, will hold two camps June 27 for high school players. There will be a 7-on-7 tournament for quarterbacks, wide receivers, running backs, tight ends, safeties, cornerbacks and linebackers. The cost per team is $200 and each team is guaranteed five games. Golf

* PGA tournament trip: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a trip to Memphis, Tenn., for the final day, June 14, of the Stanford St. Jude Championship at the TPC Southwind. The bus will leave the Osage Community Centre at 6 a.m. Cost: $60, which includes a one-day admission to the tournament and transportation to and from the course on a charter bus. Info: 339-6340.

* TEAM Southeast football tournament: The annual TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) Southeast football golf tournament will take place June 15 at Kimbeland Country Club in Jackson. The four-person scramble is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., with registration at 11:30 a.m. and lunch served at noon. Players who don't have a team lined up can be assigned to one. * Lutheran Family scramble: The Lutheran Family and Children's Services will host the Hope for Families golf tournament May 11 at Dalhousie Golf Club. * Notre Dame booster club tournament: The Notre Dame booster club's spring golf tournament will take place Friday at Bent Creek Golf Course. * Splash and dash: There will be a swim/run event June 14 that begins at the Central Municipal Pool. Distances are determined by age -- adults: 500-yard swim, 2-mile run; 7- and 8-year olds: 50-meter swim, 1-mile run; 9- and 10-year olds: 100-meter swim, 1-mile run; 13- to 15-year olds: 200-meter swim, 1-mile run. Running

* KFVS Run/Walk: The 5KFVS run/walk will be May 16 in downtown Cape Girardeau. The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the KFVS Hirsch Tower at 310 Broadway. Cost: $20. Deadline: May 8. There will be no race-day registration. Info: kfvs12.com.

* Mother's Day run: There will be a Mother's Day 2-mile run May 10 at the visitors center at Trail of Tears State Park. It is the first of four races in the 2009 SplitMasters Racing Series. Info or to register: www.splitmastertiming.com.

* Furry 5K: Fitness Plus will host a Furry 5K and 1-mile walk Saturday at Capaha Park shelter No. 1. All dogs must be on a leash at all times and have current vaccinations. For safety reasons, the following are not allowed: retractable leashes, dogs younger than 6 months, leashes longer than 8 feet, female dogs in heat and aggressive dogs. * Free juniors clinics: The Cape Area Tennis Association will hold free clinics at the Southeast Missouri State University tennis facility May 30. * Social doubles: Doubles players are invited to play socially Saturday mornings at the Southeast Missouri State University tennis facility. Play begins June 6 at 9 a.m. There is no cost and players of all abilities are invited.

* Juniors tournament and league: There will be a juniors league Saturday mornings at Central High School beginning June 6. Any player age 10 to 18 who can serve, rally and score is eligible to participate. The league is free and on a drop-in basis. * Hershey's meet: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will host the 20th annual Hershey's track and field meet at the Central Junior High track May 21. Registration will be from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m., with events beginning at 5 p.m. The meet is open to boys and girls ages 9 to 14 in Southeast Missouri.
