Basketball

Coaches Clinic: The Southeast Missouri Basketball Coaches Association will hold its 2013 coaches clinic Sept. 28 at the Jackson High School gym. Speakers will be Southeast Missouri State coach Dickey Nutt, SIU Carbondale associate head coach Tom Hankins, Shawnee (Ill.) Community College coach John Sparks, Sikeston High School coach Gregg Holifield, Republic High School coach Trevyor Fisher, Kirkwood High School coach Bill Gunn and Missouri Basketball Coaches Association executive director Denny Hunt. Cost: $50 for individuals or $125 for an entire coaching staff. Cost includes membership in the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association, a clinic T-shirt and lunch. Baseball

Southeast tryout: The Southeast Missouri baseball program will hold an open tryout at 3 p.m. Sept. 4 at Capaha Field. Those wishing to participate must have a physical from the last six months on record, along with a copy of that physical, and be a full-time Southeast student. Info: 986-6002.

Jackson baseball/softball instructional fall league: Jackson American Legion baseball coaches Mark Lewis and Jack Thompson will host the instructional fall league for baseball and softball for eight weeks beginning Monday. Baseball players in grades 9 to 12 will go Mondays and Wednesdays, players in grades 6 to 8 will go Tuesdays, and players in grades 4 and 5 will go Fridays. Girls softball players will participate Thursdays. All instruction is held at Legion Field and runs from 6 to 8:15 p.m. Cost: $150 for eight sessions or $250 for 16 sessions. Jackson baseball fall league: A fall youth baseball league for players ages 8 to 18 will begin the first week of September in Jackson. Info: Mark Winder, 225-6066, or www.jblbaseball.org.

Golf

Joe Uhls tournament: The Southeast Missouri State baseball program will hold its ninth annual Joe Uhls Memorial golf tournament Oct. 4 at Bent Creek Golf Course in Jackson. The four-person scramble will begin at 12:30 p.m. following lunch at 11:30 a.m. Cost: $175 per player, which includes lunch, refreshments and a pullover jacket. Plenty of sponsorships are available for purchase. Hole sponsorships are $100 and include a sponsor sign with company name or logo at a tee box. All proceeds benefit the Southeast baseball program. Softball
