AREA BRIEFS: YOUTH TRIATHLON AND KIDS HALF-MILER

The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor its 12th annual Youth Triathlon and Kids Half-Miler at Cape Central Municipal Pool on Aug. 19.

The event, for boys and girls ages 9-18, begins at 9 a.m.

The Kids Half-Mile Run is for ages 4-8 and will follow the triathlon.

Awards will be given to overall male and female winners and the top three finishers in each age division. There will also be team competition for male, female and coed teams.

T-shirts will be given to all participants.

The course consists of a 200-meter swim (ages 9-12), or a 300-meter swim (13-18), followed by a 2-mile bike course and 1-mile run.
