AREA BRIEFS: 10TH ANNUAL YOUTH TRIATHLON

The Cape Girardeau Parks & Recreation Department will sponsor its 10th annual Youth Triathlon and Kids Half-Miler at Central Municipal Pool Aug. 1.

The event, for boys and girls ages 9-18, will begin at 9 a.m.

The course will consist of a 200-meter swim (ages 9-12) or a 300-meter swim (ages 13-18), followed by a two-mile bike ride and one-mile run.

There will be three age division for the triathlon: 9-12, 13-15 and 16-18. Awards will be given to the overall male and female winners and the top three finisher in each age division. There will also be team competition for male, female and coed teams.

The Kids Half-Miler is for ages 4-8. It will have two age divisions for both boys and girls: 4-6 and 7-9.

T-shirts will be given to the first 100 entries.
