The continued dominance of Southeast Missouri State University senior left-hander Tim Alvarez has once again been recognized by the Ohio Valley Conference.
Alvarez was chosen OVC co-pitcher of the week for the second straight time, the league announced Monday. He pitched a nine-inning shutout against Tennessee Tech Saturday as the Indians swept a doubleheader to begin the conference season.
For the season, Alvarez is 8-0 with an amazing 1.19 earned-run average and leads the OVC in wins and ERA.
"Tim has been unbelievable," Southeast coach Mark Hogan said. "He just does it every time out."
Hogan's Indians (13-8, 2-0 OVC) will try to extend their 10-game winning streak today when they hit the road for a 1 p.m. non-league doubleheader against Lipscomb (11-22) in Nashville, Tenn.
Southeast swept a doubleheader from Lipscomb earlier this season in Cape Girardeau, winning 9-3 and 6-5.
"They played us tough at our place, and they've got some good wins this year," Hogan said. "It won't be an easy day for us."
The Indians have another non-conference game Wednesday when Southern Illinois (17-12, 8-3 Missouri Valley Conference)) visits Capaha Field for a 3 p.m. start. Southeast beat SIU 7-5 last week in Carbondale, Ill.
"That's a very good rivalry game, and both teams always look forward to it," Hogan said.
Southeast travels to Eastern Kentucky this weekend to resume OVC play with a three-game series.
