Five area soccer players were recently named to all-state teams. Notre Dame High School's soccer team, which reached the Missouri Class 1A-3A sectional round, recently had three players named to the 1A-3A All-State Third Team. (Top photos) Pulling in the honor, from left, were Zach Miller, Oliver Sanders and Mark Buehrle. Miller, a forward, scored 22 goals and had 10 assists. Sanders, a midfielder, netted 12 goals and nine assists. Buehrle, who had three goals and four assists, led a Bulldog defense that registered 11 shutouts. Notre Dame finished with an 18-4-5 record. The duo powered Jackson to a 20-5-2 record and its second straight sectional appearance. Windeknecht, a striker, scored an astounding 48 goals while Knowlan, a midfielder/striker, finished with 22 goals and 14 assists. Cape Central midfielder Nathan Gibbar was also an honorable mention for the 4A team. Gibbar netted eight goals and had two assists in the 1998 season.
