St. Vincent and Jackson posted two of the top records among the six area football teams, and each landed five first-team players on the Southeast Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters all-region teams released Wednesday.
Following a 1-3 start, St. Vincent won six of its next seven games to make it to the Class 1 quarterfinals. St. Vincent finished its season 7-5.
Senior running back Greg Finger, junior offensive lineman Quentin Robinson, senior kicker Lucas Robinson, senior defensive lineman Chris Fischer and sophomore defensive back Justin L'Hote made the Class 1 first team for St. Vincent.
Jackson was 5-1 before losing three straight late in the season and finished 6-4. The Indians finished 2-1 in the SEMO North Division to tie at the top with Poplar Bluff.
Senior offensive lineman Ben Wood, junior offensive lineman Brian Hill, senior kicker Grant Ressel, junior defensive lineman Adam Collier and senior punter Rex Meyr all made the first team for classes 4 and 5 from Jackson.
Central, the district champion in Class 4 District 1, placed three players on the first team. The Tigers finished 4-7 after falling to Farmington in the sectional.
Senior Blake Slattery was a first-team selection at quarterback and defensive back. He was joined by junior linebacker Joe Uhls and senior offensive lineman Kory Kitchen.
Scott City, which also finished 6-4, had a pair of first-team members in Class 2. Junior quarterback Ethan Watkins and senior receiver Jamie Pinkston made it from the Rams.
Chaffee senior offensive lineman Walker Rice and junior linebacker Dylan McAllister each made the first team in Class 1. The Red Devils won three games this year after going winless the past three seasons. Red Devils coach Charlie Vickery was the Coach of the Year in Class 1.
