MARBLE HILL -- Advance High's boys basketball team entered the season regarded by many as one of the area's best small-school squads.

This week, the Hornets proved that they do deserve to be mentioned among the area's elite. Top-seeded Advance captured the Woodland Tournament championship Friday night by knocking off the second-seeded host squad 49-37.

Garrett Broshuis, one of the area's premier players, scored a game-high 16 points. And he got plenty of help as Daniel Turner had 15 points and Adam Rainey contributed 10.

Woodland got 15 points from C.W. Stacy and 10 from Jason Greer.

Advance led 15-11 after one quarter and 25-22 at halftime. The Hornets pushed their lead out to 36-28 entering the fourth quarter.

Also Friday, Leopold and Delta finished according to their seeding as Leopold prevailed 46-30 in the game to decide third and fourth place; and Zalma, the eighth and last seed, capped a strong tournament by beating No. 7 Oak Ridge 54-46 in the consolation final to decide fifth and sixth place.

Leopold received balanced scoring in its win as Ashton James was the only player in double figures with 10 points. The Wildcats led 19-12 at halftime and broke the game open with a 20-11 third-quarter edge. Zalma got 14 points from Chris Canoy and 13 from Jason Means. Matt Schoen paced Oak Ridge with 15 points while Ben Fadler added 10.

I-55 ClassicSCOTT CITY -- Scott City will go for its second straight I-55 Classic title tonight after defeating St. Vincent 72-51 in the semifinals.

Scott City will face Delta C-7 in tonight's 8:30 p.m. championship game to be played at North Pemiscot High School.

Ryan Weatherspoon, a 6-foot-6 senior center, helped power the Rams into the final as he had a triple-double with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocked shots. Teammate Ronald Watson added 16 points for Scott City, which improved to 3-0.

Ryan Prost paced St. Vincent with 14 points before fouling out while Gabe Hotop added 12 points.

Scott City held just a 32-30 lead at halftime, but opened up a 49-42 lead by the close of the third quarter. The Rams held a 23-9 scoring edge in the fourth quarter.

In consolation semifinal action, Poplar Bluff's JV defeated East Prairie 55-50.

In tonight's other games, St. Vincent will play N. Pemiscot at 7 for third place; Poplar Bluff's JV and Senath will meet at 5:30 in the consolation final; and S. Pemiscot and East Prairie will play for seventh at 4.

Oran TournamentORAN -- Top-seeded Twin Rivers Twin Rivers knocked off second-seeded Scott County Central 62-53 to capture the championship.

In other games, fifth-seeded Oran finished third with a 69-58 victory over third-seeded GIdeon while No. 4 Kelly captured consolation honors by beating No. 7 Bell City 53-47.

Twin Rivers got 16 points from Jason Jenkins. Scott Central was led by Todd Blissett and Chris Johnson with 12 points each. Jreece Johnson and Allen Crites both scored 10 points.

Oran capped a solid tournament as Travis Friga scored 21 points, Eric Spies had 16 and Philip Seyer added 14.

Kelly got 13 points from Quinton Schaefer. Bell City was led by Gabe Scherer with 12 points, Nate Walter with 11 and Eric Henry with 10.

West Plains 78, Charleston 67CHARLESTON -- Charleston looked as though it would win, leading 42-32 after the first half, but West Plains overtook the Blue Jays in the second half.

Charleston was unable to recover from a 23-6 scoring barrage by West Plains in the third quarter. The Blue Jays were outscored 46-25 in the second half.

Andrew Boyce was the leading scorer for West Plains with 20 points. Levi McWilliams notched 17 and Nathan Powers had

Charleston's Howard Biles was a bright spot for his team, netting 22 points. Lezcano Dean recorded 14 points and Delon Turner added 11.

Eagle Ridge Christian 60, West Point Christian 21Eagle Ridge Christian School opened its season with nearly a 40-point margin of victory over Doniphan's West Point Christian School.

Eagle Ridge took its varsity players out of the game after posting a 22-2 scoring edge after the first quarter.

Mike Probst led all scorers with 14 points and teammates Andrew Mellies and Brandon Sparkman each had 12 points for Eagle Ridge. Daniel Ellinghaus added 10 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALLDoniphan 56, Perryville 55PERRYVILLE -- Perryville found exactly how elusive the first win of the season can be as a strange scorekeeper foul up cost the Lady Pirates their point guard and contributed to a one-point loss.

The error had Amanda Nuyt fouling out with just three fouls and Perryville ahead by five points.

Perryville, which fell to 0-3, led by as many as 12 points in the third quarter.

Jamie Amberger led Perryville with 19 points and Stacy Baer added 17.

Doniphan took a 16-12 lead into the second quarter but saw Perryville move ahead 32-29 by halftime. The Lady Pirates increased the lead to 45-37 by the start of the fourth quarter.

Farmington TournamentFARMINGTON -- The Jackson girls, seeded second, encountered a rare loss in the Farmington Tournament, falling 58-56 to top-seeded Farmington in Friday night's championship game.

In the boys final, top-seeded Farmington again thwarted Jackson, defeating the third-seeded Indians 56-51.
