Advance and Bell City will battle for the Class 1 District 2 volleyball title tonight following semifinal wins for both squads Monday at Bell City.

Second-seeded Advance defeated upstart Oran 25-21, 25-14 to improve to 19-10-1. Leslie Rainey led the Hornets with five kills. Angela Broshuis added four aces, Kacie Ritter had 10 assists and Stephania Jordan had six digs.

Top-seeded Bell City set up the rematch of last year's district final with a 25-19, 22-25, 25-7 win over Bernie. The district finals will be 7 p.m. tonight. The Cubs won last year's district championship in three games on their way to a Class 1 state title.

Class 2 District 2

Kacie Cartwright finished with six kills and 10 digs to lead Scott City into the finals of the Class 2 District 2 tournament at Bloomfield. The second-seeded Rams beat host Bloomfield in the semifinals 25-18, 25-20.

Abbie Cook added two kills and three blocks, and Lindsey Amick had 14 assists for the Rams (25-9). Scott City will face top seed Puxico at 6 p.m. today.

Class 4 District 1

Jackson set up its fourth match with host Poplar Bluff after beating rival Central 25-18, 25-14. Jodie Gipson led Jackson (19-10-3) with six kills and Rebecca Martin had 10 digs. The second-seeded Indians and third-seeded Mules square off in tonight's semifinals.

The Indians are 1-2 against the Mules this season, including a three-set loss in their season finale. No. 5 Sikeston will play No. 1 Farmington in the other semifinal after beating Hillsboro in two. The finals are also tonight.

Ashley Callis led Central with four aces and eight digs in its season-ending loss. Melissa Espinoza added three kills and five digs, and Ashton Gerlach had six digs.

Central 1, Parkway Central 0

Trenton Beckham scored the game's only goal with less than 10 minutes to play and Central held on for a road win.

Devon Edmonds had an assist for the Tigers (14-9-1). Jordan Young picked up the shutout.

Notre Dame 9, Hillsboro 0

Bryce Willen led a group of seven goal scorers with two goals in a road win.

Tyler LeGrand, Frankie Ellis, Abe Dirnberger, Andrew Bertrand, Jason Delgado, Kirk Boeller and Will Lindman added goals for the Bulldogs (10-11). Dee Goodin, Willen (2), Jacob Wengert, Dirnberger, LeGrand, Boeller and Elliot Vance had assists.

Jackson 3, Farmington 0

Tyler Holman recorded his fifth shutout in a road win.

Tyler Beussink scored twice and Cory Murphy added a goal for Jackson (9-13). Derrick Biri and Chris Bramlett assisted.

Jackson's JV won 5-0. Caleb Beussink, Spencer McCormick, Trey Busch, David Banville and Andrew Lorenz scored.

OTHER SPORTS

  • Central's girls junior high basketball team beat Sikeston 46-14 at the Dexter Tournament. Sarah Uptmor led Central with 13 points, Rita Walter had 10 and Mallory Rhodes had five rebounds.
