Southeast Missouri State junior center Lesley Adams has been named the Ohio Valley Conference newcomer of the week for women's basketball.
Adams, a 6-foot-2 junior college transfer, averaged 10 points and seven rebounds in two games last week while shooting a team-high 53.8 percent from the field.
Adams had a career-high 11 points and eight rebounds in Wednesday's 73-54 win over Bethel College, then recorded nine points and six rebounds in Saturday's 64-47 loss at Southern Mississippi.
Southeast, 4-5 overall and 0-2 in the OVC, continues with nonconference play this weekend at the Tulane Double Tree Classic in New Orleans.
The Redhawks face Providence at 3 p.m. Saturday, then take on either host Tulane or Alabama State on Sunday.
Pats promote Connolly
Former Southeast football player Dan Connolly was signed by the New England Patriots to their active roster from their practice squad Saturday.
Connolly, a 26-year-old offensive lineman, has played in four career NFL games, all with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2005.
Connolly was a member of the Patriots' active roster for this season's first five games and was listed as a day-of-game inactive for each contest.
He was released by the Patriots on Oct. 20 and was signed to New England's practice squad two days later.
Last year, Connolly spent all but the first week of the season on the Patriots' practice squad.
Connolly originally was signed by the Jaguars as a rookie free agent out of Southeast before the 2005 season.
