It's likely that very few college football players have ever had a better debut than Kelvin Anderson.

Anderson, nicknamed "Earthquake" for his exploits as an all-state running back at New Madrid County Central High School, had to sit out his first two seasons at Southeast Missouri State University, initially because of academic ineligibility and then because of an academic mixup.

So the highly-touted Anderson was naturally chomping at the bit when it was finally time for him to get on the field during the opening game of the 1992 season.

And he certainly didn't disappoint that crowd at Houck Stadium, rushing for 222 yards against Murray State.

That was just the first of numerous superlative performances for Anderson in a Southeast uniform as he went on to a record-setting three-year career.

Anderson gained 1,371 yards during that 1992 campaign, which still stands as the all-time top single-season rushing performance in Southeast history.

Anderson tacked on two more 1,000-yard seasons before his Southeast days were over, compiling a career total of 3,392 yards that is by far the most in school history.

After his impressive college days, which saw him earn NCAA Division I-AA All-American honors, Anderson has continued to compile big numbers in the Canadian Football League.

Competing for the Calgary Stampeders, Anderson rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each of his first three CFL seasons and is well on his way to attaining that feat again this year.

Last season, Anderson helped lead the Stampeders to the CFL championship as he turned in a strong performance during the Grey Cup game. That helped solidify him as one of Calgary's most popular athletes.
