Teri Smothers, 65, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at her home.
She was born Dec. 22, 1948, in Jonesboro, Ark., to Roy George and Lucille Crabtree Bennett.
She and Howell J. Smothers were married March 20, 1971, in Cape Girardeau.
Teri was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and majored in home economics. She was the director of Kid's Korner, Cape First's day care, and she owned Bloomin' Balloons Flower Shop. She also was a teacher at Heartland Christian School in Sikeston, Mo., and then the GED program in the Adult Basic Education Program in Cape Girardeau.
She was a member of Cape First, where she served as pianist 35 years. She had played piano since she was 12.
Survivors include her husband, Howell Smothers of Cape Girardeau; her parents, Roy and Lucille Bennett of Calvert City, Ky.; daughter, Heather Soo Hon (Yen) of Cape Girardeau; brother, Stan Bennett (Jill) of Tucson, Ariz.; sister, Maretta Garrard (Dave) of Paducah, Ky.; and four granddaughters, Destiny, Asia, Grace and Bella Soo Hon.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cape First in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cape First, with the Rev. Gary Brothers officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park.
