MATTHEWS, Mo. -- James Curtis "Monk" Rose, 62, of Matthews died Saturday, July 17, 2004, from injuries received in an automobile accident near Matthews. MATTHEWS, Mo. -- James Curtis "Monk" Rose, 62, of Matthews died Saturday, July 17, 2004, from injuries received in an automobile accident near Matthews.

He was born Oct. 13, 1941, in Portageville, Mo., son of Luther and Ethel Fuwell Rose. He and Linda Kay Bledsoe were married June 6, 1975, at Matthews.

Rose was a boat operator 17 years with Associated Electric Power Station. He was a member of Crowe Congregational Methodist Church in Matthews, Sikeston Eagles Aerie 3319, and American Legion Post 114.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mandy Rose of St. Louis; his mother of Sikeston; two brothers, Gene Rose of Horton, Ala., Lue Rose of Sikeston; and a sister, Maggie Sauls of Sikeston.

He was preceded in death by his father, three brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Dave Gargus officiating. Burial will be in Matthews Cemetery.
