ALTENBURG, Mo. -- Edna Eleanor Meyr Hartmeister, 96, of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, was born to life eternal with her savior, Jesus, on Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, at Shorehaven Lutheran Home in Oconomowoc. She was born July 23, 1918, to Arnold and Alida Fischer Meyr in Altenburg. She married her beloved husband, Elmer, on Oct. 25, 1947. He preceded her in death March 1, 1983...

ALTENBURG, Mo. -- Edna Eleanor Meyr Hartmeister, 96, of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, was born to life eternal with her savior, Jesus, on Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, at Shorehaven Lutheran Home in Oconomowoc.

She was born July 23, 1918, to Arnold and Alida Fischer Meyr in Altenburg. She married her beloved husband, Elmer, on Oct. 25, 1947. He preceded her in death March 1, 1983.

Edna was a descendant of many Saxon Lutheran immigrant families who came to St. Louis and then to Perry County, Missouri. She was baptized, confirmed and married by Adolph Vogel at Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg.

She worked in St. Louis prior to her marriage, after which time she became the cherished mother of six children.

They are Patricia (the Rev. Paul) Borgman of Oconomowoc, Barbara Stoeppelwerth of Marietta, Georgia, Susan (the Rev. Paul) Speerbrecker of Janesville, Wisconsin, Ruth (Gerald) Schlomer of Sedalia, Missouri, and Paul (Monica) Hartmeister of Carmel, Indiana.

Also surviving is a sister, Esther (John) Fischer; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Norbert) Meyr and Gertrude Hartmeister Walkenhorst; 12 grandchildren, Michael (Tracy) Borgman, Joel (Brenda) Borgman, Stephen (Kapri) Borgman, Wayne (Cara) Klamp, John (Tiffany) Speerbrecker, James (Kristin) Speerbrecker, Jesse, Jason and Joshua Speerbrecker, Julian Schmiedeke and Jacob and Samuel Hartmeister; six great-grandchildren, Macie, Emma, Bryant and Phillip Borgman, and Jeremy and Jason Klamp; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.

In addition, she is remembered by scores of friends in Missouri and Wisconsin, including the exceptional nursing staff at Shorehaven Health Center where she lived most recently.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Ascension Lutheran Church, 5347 Donovan Avenue in St. Louis.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at 9:45 a.m. Monday in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Road in St. Louis.

Pagenkopff Funeral Home in Oconomowoc is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Ascension Lutheran Church, 5347 Donovan Ave, St. Louis, MO 63109, or to Lutheran Heritage Center and Museum, 75 Church St., Altenburg, MO 63732.
