CAIRO, Ill. -- Dimples C. Swoboda, 93, of Cairo died at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 28, 1920, in Sikeston, Mo., the daughter of Lawson and Mabel Patterson.
She married Gilbert Roy "Rags" Swoboda on Nov. 18, 1941. He survives. They were married for 72 years.
Dimples was a member of Cairo Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Gilbert Roy "Rags" Swoboda Jr. of Cairo; daughter, Nancy (Edward) Doss of Mounds, Ill.; three grandchildren, Stephen Roy Swoboda and Gregory Roy Swoboda, both of Cape Girardeau, and Burton M. (Angie) Doss of Madison, Miss.; two great-grandchildren, Jackson M. Doss and Harper M. Doss of Madison; nephew, Lewis F. McRoy Jr. of Marion, Ill.; two nieces, Patricia Berry of Indianola, Miss., and Laurie Johnson of Vicksburg, Miss.; brother, Bill (Janette) Patterson of Bay St. Louis, Miss.; other relatives; and friends.
Dimples was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gilbert "Gibby" Swoboda III; her close sisters-in-law, Gussella Walston, Alice Johnson and Marie McRoy; and sisters Marie Goodard and Geneva Malian.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mighty Rivers Regional Worship Center in Cairo.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Larry Potts officiating.
Interment will be in Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mighty Rivers or to Cairo Public Library. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
