Ruby Aleene Sander, 95, of Jackson passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born March 24, 1918, daughter of William and Mabel Rice Illers. She and Leonard F. Sander were married March 20, 1938. Aleene was an active member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson 83 years, where she taught Sunday school more than 30 years. ...

Ruby Aleene Sander, 95, of Jackson passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born March 24, 1918, daughter of William and Mabel Rice Illers. She and Leonard F. Sander were married March 20, 1938.

Aleene was an active member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson 83 years, where she taught Sunday school more than 30 years. She was a member of Naomi Circle, PEO and Jackson Garden Club. She was a community volunteer and she loved to care for her family.

Survivors include two sons, Fritz (Marsha) and Paul (Pam) Sander of Jackson; six grandchildren, Sam (fiancee Sheigh) and Spencer Sander, Lindsay (Chris) Harshburger, Stephen (Kelly) Sander, Frank (Elizabeth) and Trent (Malissa) Miller; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold (Becky) Illers; a sister, Doris (Ed) Eltzroth of Cape Girardeau; and a sister-in-law, Joan Illers of Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years; a brother, Donald Illers; and two infant sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to New McKendree UMC Children's Ministry or a charity of your choice.
