A water main break on William Street in Cape Girardeau has reduced traffic to one lane for a short section near South Missouri Avenue.

Kevin Priester, Water System Manager with Alliance Water Resources, who operates the city's water system, said the work to repair the main will take most of the day. Residents in the immediate area may experience reduced water pressure. Anyone who will experience significant interruptions will be notified.

William is down to one lane from about 200 feet east of Missouri Street to the intersection of William and Missouri, Priester said.

The cause of the break is unknown at this time.
