Two Cape Girardeau police officers were injured during an altercation with a suspect Sunday.

Officers Orrin Hawkins and Shane Bourbon were responding to a call of a domestic disturbance at a vehicle parked on the south shoulder of William Street near Waterworks,

according to a probable-cause statement by Hawkins. The woman who made the call said an individual was on top of her car and refused to get off, Hawkins wrote.

When officers arrived, both parties were in the car, and the man, Tristan Amann, 19, of Cape Girardeau was ordered to exit the vehicle, Hawkins wrote. Once he was out of the car, officers saw Amann had a knife in his pocket, according to the statement. The officers tried to place Amman in handcuffs, but he pulled away and fled on foot, ignoring commands to stop, Hawkins wrote.

When Hawkins caught up to him, Amann grabbed the officer, who reportedly lost his footing on the ice and fell, still holding on to Amann. The suspect remained standing but hit Hawkins in the head with a closed fist, according to the statement.

As Amann tried to strike Hawkins again, Bourbon grabbed his arm and took him to the ground. Hawkins suffered abrasions on both knees, and Bourbon suffered an abrasion on his left knee and scratches on his left wrist. Bourbon also had pain in his left side and upper and lower teeth, according to the probable-cause statement.

The affidavit also stated Amann had been in possession of alcohol while in the vehicle.

Amann is charged with two felony counts of second-degree assault on a law-enforcement officer and the misdemeanors of resisting a lawful detention and possession of alcohol by a minor.
