KENNETT, Mo. -- Charges have been filed against two Kennett residents in connection with the murder of 25-year-old Roosevelt Jackson, who was gunned down Monday.
According to Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Stephen P. Sokoloff, 22-year-old Standrique Matlock and 23-year-old Kareema Jefferson are facing charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action. If convicted, both suspects face a maximum penalty of death or life in prison without parole.
Jefferson was arrested early Tuesday morning at a residence on Eighth Street in Kennett. Matlock was arrested about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at a residence in Hayti Heights, Mo.
Authorities believe Matlock was originally from Hayti Heights but has been living in Kennett.
Also recovered during Matlock's arrest was a 9 mm handgun, believed to be the murder weapon.
According to the KPD, at approximately 11:47 p.m. Monday officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Astrachan Street to investigate a report of someone being shot.
Upon arrival, officers found the body of Jackson inside of a vehicle. Jackson had been shot in the back, as well as his front left torso.
