Southeast Missouri State University was represented by three honors students and two faculty members at the National Collegiate Honors Council Conference Oct. 31 to Nov. 3 in Chicago.
Lawrence Clark, director of Southeast's honors program, and Pamela Hearn, coordinator of the university's governor's scholars, along with students Hui Ling Chan, Jeanette Schafer and Bill Vaughn, attended the conference.
Chan, of Malaysia and an English major, presented a paper on the contrasts between Malaysian and American educational concepts.
Schafer, of Puxico and a biology major, used slides to accompany her lecture on the effect of grazing on vegetation patterns in Canyonlands National Park, a field study she completed last summer.
Governor's scholar Bill Vaughn, of Cape Girardeau and a double major in English and philosophy, read his paper, "Psychological and Allegorical Approaches to Chaucer's Pardoner."
In addition to the students, Clark participated in a panel discussion titled "Mentoring Honors Students: Conceptual Issues and Model Programs." He also presented a workshop titled "Developing an Honors Program in Conjunction with a Nationally Recognized Liberal Education Program."
