Ameren Missouri reported widespread power outages in Scott County after a series of storms rolled through the region Tuesday afternoon.

Ameren reported almost 2,800 customers were without power as of 6 p.m. Tuesday. That is more than 30 percent of the customers Ameren serves in the county.

Ameren spokesman Jeff Trammel said the power outage was because of downed power lines from the storms.

“Those people will have power restored tonight,” he said Tuesday evening.

By 7 p.m., power had been restored to all but four customers in Scott County, according to Ameren’s online outage map.

Power outages were minimal or nonexistent in Cape Girardeau, Perry and Stoddard counties after the storms.

Cape Girardeau County briefly was under a severe thunderstorm warning Tuesday afternoon.

Broadcast media for the National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky, reported hail measuring as large as 0.88 inches in Cape Girardeau.
