School groups to collect for senior citizens dinner

CHAFFEE - Recently members of the Career and Community Leaders of America and Chaffee High School Student Council collected money for the annual senior citizens' Thanksgiving dinner.

Over the last 10 years, the dinner has become a favorite of both Chaffee's senior residents and the high school students. Due to the popularity of the dinner, this year, students will be limiting the number of take-outs for shut-ins to one per person per ticket. As always, the dinner is free and open to only those senior citizens living in the Chaffee School District, unless a grandparent of an FCCLA or Student Council member.

Tickets will be available only at the high school and may be picked up after Nov. 1 in the main office between 7:30 and 11:45 a.m. and 12:20 and 4 p.m. Tickets will be limited to four per person at time of sign-up.

Students in the career group started the school year off with several activities. Members once again made and sold funnel cakes at German Day. The money raised will be used for leadership and service projects for the chapter throughout the year.

Last month, 10 members and adviser Jennifer Nolen traveled with the Kelly High School FCCLA members to Ste. Genevieve for the Region 6 fall workshop.

To encourage students to get involved and become an active member, the chapter held a pizza lunch in FACS with more than 80 students attending.

FCCLA along with FBLA will trick-or-treat for canned goods from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 30. Chaffee residents are asked to contribute non-perishable items that will be donated to the local food pantry.
