A fire at Country Gardens, 210 Franks Lane in Cape Girardeau caused no injuries, but did cause an estimated $50,000 damage from flames, heat and smoke, firefighters said.
A bedroom in one of the 12-room buildings operated by Country Gardens, a residential facility serving mentally handicapped adults, caught fire around noon Sunday. The fire was contained to the room.
The residents were already out of the house by the time firefighters arrived, said battalion chief Steve Niswonger. They were all relocated to different facilities in the complex.
The Missouri Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
