YAOUNDE, Cameroon -- A governor in Cameroon says a suicide bombing blamed on Islamic militants has killed at least 10 people. The attack on a popular night spot Saturday evening in the town of Maroua comes just days after other violence blamed on Boko Haram militants left at least 20 dead. Midjiyawa Bakery, governor of the far northern region of Cameroon, said authorities still are counting the dead and wounded. While there was no claim of responsibility, Islamic militants from the Boko Haram group have been blamed for scores of attacks in the region this year. Boko Haram, which was founded in neighboring Nigeria, has vowed to attack Cameroon because the country has supported the Nigerian military's mission to defeat the group.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- California Attorney General Kamala Harris said Friday she plans to review two undercover videos released by pro-life activists aimed at discrediting Planned Parenthood's procedures for providing fetal tissue to researchers, to see whether any laws were broken. Harris announced the move in a letter to four Democratic members of Congress who had requested an investigation, saying she'll use her office's authority to regulate charity organizations to see whether the organization that made the videos violated registration or reporting requirements, or broke any other rules. The videos show Dr. Mary Gatter, a Planned Parenthood medical director in Southern California, meeting with people posing as potential buyers of intact fetal specimens.
BROKEN ARROW, Okla. -- An Oklahoma 16-year-old will be charged as an adult alongside his older brother in the stabbing deaths of his parents and three siblings at a suburban Tulsa home, authorities said Saturday. The suspect will face the same counts as his 18-year-old brother, Robert Bever, who is accused in a booking document of five counts of first-degree murder and a count of aggravated assault in the Wednesday night attack in Broken Arrow. Police have not released the 16-year-old's name, but Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler confirmed Saturday both siblings have been booked on first-degree murder complaints. The brothers are accused of fatally stabbing their parents, two brothers and a sister.
JERUSALEM -- The former wife of Jonathan Pollard, an American convicted of spying for Israel, called Saturday on the Israeli government to pay for an attorney to facilitate his freedom amid speculation he could be released soon. Jonathan Pollard was arrested in 1985 as he tried unsuccessfully to gain asylum in Israel's Washington embassy. Since then, the case has stoked passions and divided opinions in both countries. Supporters argue he was punished excessively. Critics call him a traitor who they say damaged U.S. national security by disclosing a trove of sensitive documents. He becomes eligible for parole in November, on the 30th anniversary of his arrest.
