SIKESTON, Mo. — More details have become available concerning a weekend stabbing in Sikeston.
Karlos Ray Draper, 42, of 226 Westgate in Sikeston, is charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action in connection with the stabbing of Jeremy West, 21. When officers with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety arrived on the scene at the 400 block of Sunset around 3 a.m. Saturday, they found West with four or five stab wounds to his back and a laceration to his left index finger. He was treated at a Cape Girardeau-area hospital and later released, as the injuries were non-life threatening.
During the investigation, law enforcement officials also learned that, prior to the assault, West punched his ex-girlfriend Jalishia Draper, niece of the suspect, in the face. Karlos Draper and two juveniles then chased West from the residence in the 300 block of Magnolia to the intersection of Sunset and West North, where they caught him, got him down on the ground, kicked and stabbed him, according to the probable cause affidavit.
A juvenile was also arrested in connection with the incident.
