The city of Jackson accepted several contractors’ bids Monday night, taking the first steps in expanding the Hubble Creek Recreation Trail.
Fronabarger Concreters Inc. of Oak Ridge, which submitted the winning bid of $280,580.75, was awarded the contract for phase one, which is to connect the city park to the trail’s current location 3,300 feet away at West Jackson Boulevard.
The Board of Aldermen also approved an increase in expenditures for additional engineering services for the second phase of the project, located on the other side of the city park.
Smith & Company Engineers of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, was awarded $6,320 to finish the work.
But the trail extensions aren’t the only project on the city’s schedule.
Jackson residents may notice activity on the Iron Mountain Railroad crossing at East Jackson Boulevard as soon as this week.
Although the building schedule is contingent on good weather, crews are supposed to mobilize equipment and materials near the site from March 23 to April 7, said Public Works director Rodney Bollinger.
On April 2, the Missouri Department of Transportation is scheduled to set up digital message boards informing motorists of possible delays and detours.
At 6 p.m. April 9, crews are scheduled to break ground and continue work until the project is finished, which crews anticipate will be early afternoon the next day. Fronabarger Concreters entered the winning bid for that project as well, Bollinger said, which was about $310,000.
