The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Southeast Missouri and much of the surrounding area.

The watch takes effect Tuesday morning and lasts through Wednesday.

Weather service forecasts say four to six inches of rain is possible Tuesday morning and into Wednesday, primarily in an area along and northwest of the Ohio River. Already saturated ground will be prone to flooding throughout the area.

Heavy rainfall could also lead to river flooding.

Isolated strong thunderstorms will also be possible Tuesday from this storm system, weather service forecasts say.
