Profits from the 1994 SEMO District Fair were almost the same as last year, netting $46,945.

The fair generated about $10,000 more in revenues this year, bringing in a total of $387,879 during its eight-day run in September.

Fair expenditures were almost $9,800 higher this year, totaling $340,934.

The cash balance for the Southeast Missouri District Fair Association on Oct. 31 stood at $311,254.

About 150 attended the association's annual meeting Thursday night at the Drury Lodge in Cape Girardeau, at which the financial report was given.

Fair Board President Bob Nitsch of Jackson said the 1994 fair did well overall for the second consecutive year.

Nitsch pointed out that the carnival revenues of $58,582 were the highest ever, exceeding last year by more than $7,000.

Grandstand revenues amounted to $80,000 while the fair paid $62,000 for three top acts and a tractor pull.

The fair spent almost $16,000 for additional free entertainment this year, including the lumberjacks, Sparkles the Magic Goose and a magic show.

Nitsch said offering extra value for people who pay their $2 at the gate will continue.

The association members heard reports on other aspects of the fair.

Annette Ruesler, a junior at Jackson High School and daughter of Keith and Marie Ruesler, gave her winning FFA speech from the fair's oratorical contest.

The association elected these to serve three-year terms on the fair's voting board: Charles Mangels of Oak Ridge, Glen Birk of Jackson and Fred Higdon of Cape Girardeau.
