Community Counseling Center Foundation will hold the third annual Doctor-Lawyer Basketball Game Feb. 15 at Cape Girardeau Central High Field House. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit people with mental illness by providing improvements and equipment for services provided by the center.

Southwestern Bell Telephone has teamed up with the foundation as title sponsor.

"Southwestern Bell is excited to join area doctors and lawyers in support of this local event to benefit individuals here in Southeast Missouri," said Craig Felzien, area manager for external affairs. "Over the years the Board of Directors of the Community Counseling Center Foundation has been a conscientious steward, doing much to provide an improved quality of life and enhanced services to the mentally ill in our area."

The doctors' team is headed by Dr. Jim Chapman. Chapman said that while the doctors have successfully defended the championship since the event's beginning, this year's contest will be tough.

John Harding of Limbaugh, Russell, Payne and Howard is the lawyers' team coach. "The lawyers are fierce to end this run by the docs on the court," he said. "This is the year for a favorable verdict for the lawyers."

The event will be preceded by a patron party at the Royal N'Orleans restaurant. Tickets are required and available from the Community Counseling Center or from patron party chairman Toni Zimmer.

Activities at halftime include music, dance and the MVP long-distance shoot-out. Zonta Club will sponsor prize drawings during the game.

Last year $10,000 was granted to Someone's Treasure Clubhouse, a psycho-social rehabilitation program, for renovation of their building on Broadway.

For more information call the Community Counseling Center at 334-1100.
