The Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center is offering flu shots on a walk-in basis.

According to a release from the center, there is a myth that vaccinations given after the Thankgiving holiday are too late.

As long as flu viruses are spreading and causing illness, vaccination should continue, said Jane Wernsman, assistant director of the center. Flu activity usually peaks in January or February and can last as late as May.

Vaccines available at the clinic protect against three strains of flu that circulated widely in the U.S. in recent years. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a yearly flu vaccine.
